Who you are now is a product of all your past experiences. The years you have lived, the impressions you have gained and the relationships you have had all impact upon the person you are today.
As a child who you become is out of your control. Your parents play the driving role in your development, with family, teachers, the media and things like churches helping out in shaping you as a person.
The older you get the more control you exercise over who you are and who you want to be. But by the time you hit your teens you are actually quite stuck in your ways. Your ways of thinking and subconscious thought patterns have been formed. You have a certain attitude towards life and you approach the world in your own unique way.
When you hit adulthood you have a choice:
- You keep floating along through life on a whim, taking whatever the world throws at you. With this option you keep much the same thoughts and attitudes that you picked up during your formative years and these carry you through until you die. You don’t take responsibility for what happens to you; you believe that what happens will happen and you have no control over it; or
- You take conscious control over your future. You don’t sit back and wait for the world to come to you. You decide what you want and you set about making it happen. You decide the direction and you plot the course. You see the world as a blank canvas upon which you can paint, rather than a finished product in which you are merely a subject. You take charge.
The Shitness Of Floating On A Whim
Most people don’t step up and take charge of their lives. They go to high school, maybe to college. Then they get a shit job and work 9 till 5 until they retire. Then they die.
People don’t sit down and decide that this is the life for them. They just fall into it because that is society’s norm.
These people grow up listening to the voices that tell them they need to get good grades, find a secure job, marry, get a mortgage, have kids, build a nest egg and live for their retirement. They listen to the voice that tells them to be a good citizen, vote, go to church, pay their taxes, don’t cause trouble.
But they are living someone else’s life, someone else’s dream. They didn’t want this. They gain weight in middle age, their wife has an affair, maybe they have a heart attack. Life sucks.
The Power Of Taking Control
Few people ever realize that their minds have been programmed to think in a certain way. After all almost everyone thinks in the same way, so we don’t even notice how strange it is.
But when you can see that society has duped you the veil is slowly revealed. The life path we have been told to take isn’t set in stone. It’s only an option. We don’t have to be the person that society has shaped us to be.
It’s liberating. It’s free. Your mind has cut the cord of programmed thinking.
When you ditch the programmed attitudes and subconscious thought patterns you realize the freedom you have to design the life that you desire. But in order to do that you must accept responsibility for everything.
If you follow society’s path then you can blame society if you don’t like the life you are living. But if you want to be independent then you have to accept responsibility for all that happens to you. Because if you don’t take responsibility then you take away the power to make a change.
I have a friend who is 400lb. I want to use him as an example to illustrate my point.
He blames his genes for his weight. So he makes little effort to control it. Because he thinks it is out of his power to change it. Okay so his parents are fat and he was fat as a teen. But he could have made a decision that it was within his power to control his weight. Because it is within his power. If only he accepted responsibility for the problem would he have a chance to right it. But you can’t lose weight if you are blaming someone else for your problems.
His actions might not have been the original cause. Bad genes and parents who fed him unhealthy food. But it’s too bad. The damage has been done. To move forward there is no use in blaming anybody else’s actions in the past. He has to step up and take charge of his body and lose the weight himself.
Perhaps you did not have a good male role model when you were growing up. Maybe you feel like that hindered your development as a man. Maybe it turned you into a bit of a pussy. You can blame the world for that or you can take responsibility for it now and make a change.
Maybe you aren’t good with women. How long are you going to keep making excuses for your shortcomings? When are you going to step up and consciously move in the direction that you want to?
Accept Responsibility And Achieve Anything
Whatever you want in life you can achieve it. But you have to stop thinking the way that you were raised to think.
Life doesn’t just happen to you. You happen to life. You create the world you want to live in, if you choose to. Otherwise you float like a bag in the wind.
In order to live the life you truly desire you must accept responsibility for your current circumstances and your future direction. The power is with you if you choose to take it.
Blame and resentment will only hold you back. Focus on what you want, not on what is holding you back from having it.
I’m sure you have figured out by now what a badass would do. He would take charge, take responsibility and set the direction of his own life. He doesn’t blame anyone else for his shortcomings and puts steps in place to achieve his goals. He doesn’t do what society tells him and he doesn’t think how society thinks. He blazes his own trail and fuck what anybody else tells him.
Adopt the badass mindset. March to the beat of your own drum. Achieve your goals. Live the life you desire.
Cheers
